Winners, Losers and Popcorn Politics

It should not be surprising at this point but almost all the coverage of the Democratic presidential debates has been focused on just one thing: who won, who lost (CNN, Fox, NYT, 538 and many others). There is very little analysis of what was actually said, or what it means for policy.

Popcorn politics like this may drive media engagement (politics as professional sport?) but it’s an absolute fail in terms of actually discussing the serious issues at hand.

America may find the 2020 election a source of great entertainment and end up with some very poorly thought out and debated policy choices as a result (let alone no consensus built around them).
